Enriching the musical evolution of DJ Ian Dadds

Audio cables have the power to transform how music is experienced, recorded and played. That’s something DJ Ian Dadds knows all about after upgrading his home music set-up with support from Gillman Audio.

Recognised for his eclectic mix of deep house, soulful house, afro and disco, Ian has a weekly radio show alongside collaborating with music production label, X-TRAX.

As a bigtime music aficionado, Ian is always looking to advance not only his knowledge of tracks old and new, but his technical and programming insight. He explains: 

“I had heard Phil’s name on the music scene for quite a while before we met at an event at the BBE Store where he was streaming and recording the set for the day. I’ve invested quite a bit into my home music system, but not knowing about how to achieve the best sound, it seemed like a no-brainer to ask Phil if he could advise me. He freely gave advice without any agenda or discussion of purchase. After going on to make me an XLR to RCA, he then made four bespoke Monitor cables for my mixer.”

Ian’s home set-up, consisting of a Alpha Theta Euphonia Mixer, two CDJ-3000 decks, two Yamaha HS7 MP monitor speakers and a Yamaha HS8 subwoofer, is now powered by Gillman Audio cables. And he is delighted by the results.

“The sound is absolutely f****** wow, honestly. I’ve bored people at work, who aren’t into DJing, by telling them about it. I’ve made them listen to me talking about how emotional it is for me playing music through that hardware. The sound is richer, deeper and warmer. At the same time, I can have it quieter and it still sounds all of those things. Honestly, I’m blown away by the whole experience.”

Making the choice to upgrade equipment can be a daunting one, but Phil made it easy, adds Ian:

“I would say that I’m a decent judge of character and, from the first time I met Phil, he was very warm, honest and open. For the XLR to RCA lead for my recording facility, Phil even explained the science behind the grade of wire, the insulation, and the best way to run the cable. He gave all of that information and guidance freely. Phil’s passion for what he does comes through whether he’s talking to a layman or an absolute music enthusiast and expert.”
