Overview
When you’re bringing together some of the biggest names in House music from across the globe, the quality of sound is everything.
As the organiser of the long-running and much-loved House music brand Deep Into Soul, DJ and promoter Sy Sez is constantly looking to raise the standard of the club experience - for both artists and audiences alike.
That’s where Gillman Audio comes in.
“We were putting on a massive show in London, attended by three thousand people, with VIP House DJs from the US. Because it was such a major event, we knew it was time to bring Phil in. He set the bar very high for us that first time, and continues to.”
The Challenge
Delivering high-quality sound across large-scale events, varied venues and outdoor environments presents a number of challenges.
From maintaining clarity and consistency for international DJs, to managing sound coverage across complex spaces, and working within local authority sound restrictions, as every event requires careful planning and technical precision.
The Approach

“We get Phil involved in parties where we really want to up the game. He is one of the very few audio engineers that use the Opus sound system, creating a unique sound you don’t get from anywhere else.”
Preparation is a key part of that approach.
“Even though our big events are often hundreds of miles from where Phil is based, he does a series of recces two months ahead. Most sound men aren’t like that. They just turn up with their speakers, press the power on button and off they go.”
This level of planning ensures every system is designed specifically for the venue and event requirements.
On the Day
That attention to detail continues throughout the event itself.
“Phil is a very active sound man. He is constantly walking around at events, monitoring the sound and checking the DJs and promoters are happy.”
He remains on hand throughout, ensuring everything runs smoothly - even when unexpected challenges arise.
“He’s there if we have any problems too, like when, through no fault of our own, we had a major power cut in the middle of a show!”
Sound Without Compromise
Creating exceptional sound in outdoor environments is particularly challenging, but also where Gillman Audio stands out.
“I don’t think I’ve ever heard anybody create a sound outside that seems like it’s in a room the way he does. Even when we were round the lake, his sound coverage was impeccable.”

“At the lake event, we had to be very careful to keep within set sound volume parameters. Phil was a game changer in how he communicated with the licence holder at the venue and managed the sound to make sure we stayed within those requirements.”

Gillman Audio’s role extends beyond sound system delivery.
“We also value Phil’s talent for multi-streaming events on multiple cameras and angles to cover both audio and video. After recording eight hours of material, he will have it edited and delivered by next morning, ready for us to use in our promotions.”
