Lars Behrenroth
From his early days DJing at a local dance school in Germany to headlining a 25,000-capacity music festival in South Africa three decades later, Lars Behrenroth has spent his career moving dance floors around the world.
DJ, producer, remixer and founder of Deeper Shades Recordings, Lars has performed at internationally respected clubs including DEEP in Los Angeles, Distillery in Leipzig, Motor City Lounge in Detroit, Stereo in Montreal and Djoon in Paris.
Since the early 2000s, Lars has also built a huge and devoted following in South Africa. Across numerous tours he has headlined events throughout the country, performing alongside artists including Black Coffee, Culoe De Song, Osunlade, Rocco, Nick Holder, Atjazz, Charles Webster and Jimpster.
In 2017, his contribution to the scene was recognised when he won the South African Dance Music Award for Best International DJ.
At the heart of Lars' musical world is Deeper Shades of House, his highly acclaimed weekly two-hour radio show, which celebrates its 24th anniversary this year. A previous winner of the BEMBE Best Radio Show Award, DSOH is broadcast on more than 20 radio stations worldwide across FM, satellite, DAB and online platforms.
The show is also featured among the top music podcasts on Apple Podcasts and reaches almost a quarter of a million listeners every month.
Alongside his work as a DJ and broadcaster, Lars has developed an extensive production career spanning more than 30 years. His music has appeared on respected labels including Freerange, Compost, Sonar Kollektiv and Liebe*Detail.
His remix catalogue is equally impressive, featuring work for artists including Atjazz, Beyoncé, Robert Owens, Dubtribe Sound System, MJ Cole, Arnold Jarvis, Sven Weisemann, Liquideep, Rocco and Black Coffee.
Three decades into his journey, Lars Behrenroth remains driven by the same thing that has always defined his career: deep, soulful, uncompromising house music and a genuine connection with the people on the dance floor.
