Craig Smith

Edinburgh’s Craig Smith is a DJ, producer and lifelong record collector whose career stretches back to 1987, when he made his debut at the city’s legendary The Hooch club night.

Raised on soul, boogie, jazz-funk and the emerging sounds of hip-hop and house, Craig has never been interested in being boxed into a single genre. His philosophy has always been simple: play quality dance music, understand the room and let the records tell the story.

That approach has taken him from influential residencies and parties in Scotland to dancefloors around the world, including regular appearances at Southport Weekender and SunceBeat. His ten-year residency at Edinburgh’s The Honeycomb also established him as one of Scotland’s most respected selectors, sharing booths and hosting artists including Masters At Work, Kerri Chandler, DJ Spinna, Jazzy Jeff, DJ Deep and Paul Trouble Anderson.

Away from the booth, Craig has built an equally impressive production catalogue. He is one half of the acclaimed 6th Borough Project alongside Graeme Clark, aka The Revenge, a partnership built around deep house, funk, soul and dusty disco influences. He has also recorded through projects including The Soul Renegades and Sound Signals, alongside releases under his own name.

His productions and remixes have appeared on respected labels including Delusions Of Grandeur, Defected, Yoruba Records, Soul Heaven and Atjazz Record Company, with remix work for artists including Roy Ayers, Robert Owens, Roland Clark, Michael Watford and Moloko.

Nearly four decades into the journey, Craig remains what he has always been — a proper music head and a selector’s selector. Whether digging through deep house, soul, disco, boogie or something unexpected from the back of the record box, his sets are built on experience, instinct and a genuine understanding of the dancefloor.

No gimmicks. No chasing trends. Just great records, played by someone who knows exactly why they matter.
